Fiji v Wales: Lewis Rees-Jammit switches from full-back to wing for Nations Championship opener

The Wales squad’s preparations for the Nations Championship have been marred by controversy With the WRU about match fees.

The build-up was marred by off-field issues which were resolved just three days before the opening match.

Discussions on “terms of employment” were held between Welsh rugby’s governing body and the Welsh Rugby Players’ Association (WRPA) and an agreement was reached on Wednesday afternoon to ensure the Fiji game would go ahead.

Wales had been due to hold a press conference on Wednesday but decided not to fulfill that appointment due to a dispute with the playing squad WRU.

Wells claims no training sessions were disrupted and Tandy’s press release quotes no mention of the dispute.

“It was great to be back in camp and ready for the game,” Tandy said.

“We want to continue building from the Six Nations and last weekend.

“We’ve built a lot of momentum and we want to hit the ground running on Saturday.”

Wales are the away side for Saturday’s game with hosts Fiji, despite the match being 10,000 miles away from Suva.

This will be the first international rugby game Plays at the home of Cardiff City Football Club.

“We’re excited to be in Cardiff to kick off the Nations Championship,” Tandy said.

“We love being in Wales for games. Our support means a hell of a lot to us and the fans are unbelievable how they get behind the team.”
