There are still doubts about Iran’s involvement
Iran’s football federation has asked FIFA to clarify the terms of issuing visas for the national team after moving the 2026 World Cup training camp from Arizona, USA to Tijuana, Mexico, Reuters reports.
Iran is scheduled to play all three of its group stage matches in the United States, but its participation in the tournament has been thrown into doubt by political tensions.

The camp move comes amid diplomatic wrangling and visa hurdles as Iran now needs border crossing permits to play Group G matches against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt in Los Angeles and Seattle in the US.
Iran’s federation vice-president Mehdi Mohammad Nabi told Reuters that Iran had sent a letter to FIFA “requesting a final answer after it applied for visas in advance”.
“Today we sent a letter to FIFA and asked them to announce the result as soon as possible to determine the date of issuing the visas, because now we need multiple entry visas for Mexico and multiple entry visas for the United States.”
He continued. “Based on the last conversation we had, they answered that the administrative procedures will probably be completed this week.”
Mohammad Nabi said that FIFA had proposed the Tijuana camp and that Iran had agreed to the arrangement.
“It was FIFA who proposed this camp and FIFA should tell you what happened. Anyway, we’ve got this camp in Tijuana, Mexico, and the team is ready to go, which I think will be in about a week.
