I appreciate the ability to change drive modes without taking my hands off the steering wheel, but I wish Sport mode fixed the steering wheel. And for this fun lifestyle, Rivian has to offer BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain tires on smaller 19-inch wheels instead of 20-inch ones like now.
All these areas consume 23 miles (37 km) against the Pirelli Scorpion in all seasons, however, only the dedicated ones need to complain about this. And in all fairness, riding low to handle the rougher terrain makes more sense in the R2 than the R1.
On the other hand, everyone should expect the availability of a hard roof to replace the glass roof found on the R2 lineup. I hate the glare and poor performance of the glass above my head in an EV, no matter what color or silver layer Rivian uses for insulation.
However, even though it is highly criticized, considering the performance, high design, and surprisingly low price, the R2 clearly shows how much Rivian has learned and evolved since launching the R1 for the 2022 model.
Other customer delights include not only two glove boxes and two speakers that have moved to the center of the console instead of the doors – all to create large pockets for water bottles and reduce NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) by allowing the subwoofers to force-bind in sync with each other.
The R2 update will be carried over to the third generation R1 and continue to the R3 and R3X. Meanwhile, the R2 is one of the best cars of the year, for delivering what Rivian customers want from an everyday EV. It also promotes sustainability, with 25 percent of all vehicles made from recycled or biologically derived materials.

Rivian still believes that the future of 100 percent electric vehicles represents the end of the entire automotive industry, even among many people who are pushing back from car manufacturers who are moving to internal combustion products and hybrids. Although the road to that point seems long, R2 should bring Rivian to the masses and come closer to realizing that vision of the future. This is especially true for its price and more like the fun option of the Model Y, which the R2 dominates.
