Interesting behavior from the sports director of Al-Akhdar
The heavy loss to Spain did not go unnoticed in the halls of Saudi football, as Al-Nasr legend Fahd Al-Harifi opened fire on the national team’s sporting director Fahd Al-Mufaraj for his controversial behavior minutes before the kick-off whistle.
Al-Harifi has launched a scathing attack on Saudi Arabia’s sporting director, accusing him of being responsible for Al-Akhdar’s disappointing performance so far at the 2026 World Cup.
The spark was sparked after a video was shared on social media and TV channels showing Al-Mufarrei talking to the players on the pitch shortly after taking a group photo and seconds before the start of the Spain match, as the referee was about to blow the starting whistle.
During an appearance on the Saudi channel’s Dorina Gheir program, host Khaled Al-Shaneif asked his guest Al-Harifi about the controversial shot, and the response was sharp.
“He could wait for them to get back to the dressing rooms and then talk to them. What is his role in that shot? Half the players were completely unfocused. There are those who warm up and there are those who think first.”

“I did not accept what Fahd Al-Mufaraj did. Talking to players on the pitch is illogical. He wanted to tell people. see what i’m doing “Honestly, I have a lot of respect for him, but he shouldn’t have behaved like that.”
