Everton Women: Scott Phelan appointed permanent Toffees manager

Scott Phelan has been appointed Everton Women’s permanent head coach after an interim period last season.

The 38-year-old took over on a temporary basis in February Brian Sorensen was fired and took the Toffees to eighth place in the Women’s Super League.

With the club just four points off the bottom when he took over, Phelan has made an impressive start to his interim spell, racking up three WSL wins in a row.

After joining Everton as a player at the age of eight and progressing through the club’s academy without making a senior appearance, he returned as coach in 2012.

Former Everton striker Phil Jevons, who initially returned to the club on an interim basis in February, will support Phelan going forward.

“Having the opportunity to lead our women’s team as head coach is something I don’t take for granted. I look forward to what lies ahead,” Phelan said.

“We want to move on and try to get back to where we believe Everton Football Club should be and that’s towards the top of the table.”
