Kylian Mbappe continued his remarkable brilliance at the 2026 World Cup, scoring twice in France’s emphatic 3-0 win over Sweden in the Round of 32, cementing his position as one of the tournament’s most notable stars.
Mbappe scored his sixth goal of the 2026 World Cup, equaling Argentine star Lionel Messi as the top scorer. The 27-year-old Frenchman also scored his 18th career goal at the tournament, one goal shy of equaling all-time top scorer Al-Barghout.
The duo brought a number of new records, cementing its name in the history of the World Cup, according to the statistics of a number of specialized analytical platforms.
According to Squaka Network, Mbappe became the only player in World Cup history to score two or more goals in 7 different matches throughout his participation, a feat that no other player has achieved, not even Messi, who holds the record.
Mbappe’s doubles came against Argentina (2018 and 2022), Denmark (2022), Poland (2022), Senegal (2026), Iraq (2026) and finally Sweden (2026).
Opta Network noted that Mbappe became the second Real Madrid player to score six goals in a single World Cup game, after Croatia’s Davor Šuker, who scored as many goals in 1998.
In a related context, the same network explained that Spanish league clubs now hold the all-time record for most goals scored in a World Cup game, with Barcelona leading the list with 16 goals in 1994, followed by Real Madrid with 13 goals in the current game thanks to Mbappe’s brace today.
