Firefighters are dealing with what has been described as a “major incident” at an industrial building in Essex.
Crews were called to farmland in Southend Road between East Hanningfield and Rettenton on Friday afternoon.
People reported hearing an explosion to the BBC. One said it went off “like a bomb”.
Essex County Fire and Rescue urged people to avoid the area, and said, “If you live or are traveling nearby, please keep windows and doors closed.”
The East of England Ambulance Service said it was responding to a “major incident”.
Adrian Walker, 46, from Ashingdon, said: “The ground shook, buildings shook, windows shook, birds flew – and I was 15 miles away.”
David Harris, of nearby Reilly, described it as “like someone dropped a pile of bricks.”
