The leading striker is being watched by both poles of Portuguese football
Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez is close to ending his spell with Al Hilal as his departure from the club became a matter of time in a loan deal with an option to buy until June 2027.
Informed sources have revealed that the player, who is currently with the Al Hilal delegation in their training camp in Austria, is pushing for a move away and has already received the club’s management’s pre-approval to let him go on loan.
Núñez had initially demanded his contract be terminated before a compromise was reached in which he would have to forgo part of his salary in exchange for Al Hilal’s contribution to bear part of his fees for one season.
The player’s claim to leave comes from his desire to return to the European continent and join a title-chasing side, and his agents have offered his services to Barcelona in recent days as the matter has been investigated at the Catalan club.
According to the newspaper “Sports“Núñez’s next destination could be the Portuguese league, given the serious interest from the two poles of Portuguese football, Porto and Benfica, and assessments indicate that all parties are keen to settle the deal before Al Hilal’s delegation returns to Saudi Arabia next August 3.
A return to Benfica is seen as the most welcome by the player as he has enjoyed one of his best periods of football there since joining from Spanish side Almeria in a deal that saw the Portuguese club snap up the player from Barcelona for €25m before he shone and moved to Liverpool in a deal in excess of €75m.
However, the international striker has failed to adapt to the atmosphere of the English Premier League and has not found the stability he had hoped for from his experience with the Saudi League.
Although he received other offers from Atalanta and Besiktas, he did not reach an agreement with them, while the offer from “Barcelona” is still only an offer that has not yet turned into an official move.
