Manchester City Real Madrid are considering legal action over a presidential bid to sign striker Erling Haaland.
Renewable Energy owner Enrique Riquelme, who is challenging current president Florentino Perez for the position, said on television on Wednesday that he has a release clause and wants to join Real Madrid, wearing a shirt bearing Haaland’s name.
The proposal was swiftly dismissed by Haaland’s father and representative in a joint statement before City scrapped the idea.
“The stories from Spain about Erling Haaland’s future are not true,” the statement said. “There is no possibility of this happening and there is no clause in the contract to enable it.
“We are considering taking legal action for using our player image in this context.”
