English football has agreed to a trial to end the goalkeeper’s tactical rest period.

BBC Sport has revealed that English football is preparing to try to eliminate the goalkeeper’s tactics this season.

Pending approval from the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the Football Association, Premier League, English Football League, National League and Women’s Super League have agreed.

Earlier this year, IFAB decided not to change the rules and invited leagues to volunteer for a trial.

The pro refs, led by chief refereeing officer Howard Webb, have been in discussions with the leagues to decide how to resolve the issue. He is placed on the team that has to pick up the outfield player.

If one referee announces that the physio may come to the goalkeeper, the coach will have only 10 seconds to appoint another player and tell the fourth referee to choose him to leave the field for one minute.

If no player is selected within 10 seconds, the captain must leave the field.

If clearance is received by IFAB in time, the first game for the trial will be the Carabao Cup first round tie between Tranmere and Rochdale on Saturday 1st August.

BBC Sport understands that the Australian A-League captain will try to make a difference as he always has to leave the field.

The method of obtaining a time limit on the maintenance of the guard has recently become more common and controversial.

It was not uncommon for the goalkeeper to sit on the pitch and signal to the physio, whereupon all the players would rush to the technical area for a team talk. As soon as the coach gave his instructions, the goalkeeper got up to play.

Goalkeeper handling has also been used to disrupt the opposition’s moves when they are at their best.

In November Leeds United Chief Daniel Fark was accused Manchester City Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma Feigning injury to “bend the rules”. And separate the game.
