England doctors are working hard on Reece James in the hope that he can help England’s right-back crisis and play some role in Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway.
As things stand, it’s touch and go whether his hamstring issue will allow him to show up in Miami at all, but with few options on the right side of the defense, James’ treatment is being fast-tracked to try to get him ready.
The Chelsea full-back has not trained with his England teammates in the United States since straining his hamstring in the second group game against Ghana a fortnight ago, but instead of leaving the squad, he opted to stay in the hope of being fit for the final stages of the tournament.
He took part in the warm-up at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday, raising hopes that he is on the mend. And with Thomas Tuchel having significant problems at right-back, James has to be considered.

In other injury news, Jordan Henderson The remainder of the World Cup has been ruled out.
Henderson suffered the injury after landing awkwardly during England’s dramatic 3-2 win over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium. Henderson slipped and landed on his wrist.
England players gathered around Henderson as he received treatment after the fall. He is in hospital in Mexico and may need surgery after a serious break in his arm.
The Brentford midfielder was later seen being carried off on a stretcher and receiving oxygen, with England head coach Thomas Tuchel confirming after the game that Henderson had been taken to hospital.
Henderson was in Mexico City with a member of England’s support staff and did not return with the team to their training base in Kansas City on Monday.
The 36-year-old played just six minutes at the World Cup, featuring in the closing stages of England’s 2-0 Group L win over Panama.
But he will now not play in the quarter-final against Norway or any other game if England progress.
