England vs New Zealand: Jamie Smith misses the second Test with a baby, so James Rew is set to make his debut.

Jamie Smith will miss England’s second Test against New Zealand following the birth of his daughter.

Wicketkeeper Smith’s daughter, his second child, was born on Tuesday morning, the day before the Test at The Oval started on Wednesday.

Somerset Rew, 22, will take the gloves and bat at number seven.

He will make his Test debut alongside batsman Jordan Cox and pace bowler Sonny Baker. The last time England fielded three debutants in the same XI was against South Africa at The Oval in 2017.

At Lord’s, he won the first Test by 115 runs, a total of five changes.
