England vs New Zealand: Freya Kemp’s passion for bowling has not waned during injury time.

Kemp, whose last international appearance comes in the 2025 Ashes whitewash, will not feature in the 50-over series against New Zealand starting on Sunday, but has been bowling in practice since January.

She has worked closely with England fast bowling coach Chris Liddle, insisting on developing new skills, and has bowled in three of England’s five intramural matches in South Africa in March.

She is expected to follow this three-match One Day International series in the following T20s and the T20 World Cup against the White Ferns and India starting on 12 June.

“I really enjoy impacting the game as much as I can,” Kemp said.

“I love bowling. I don’t think I’ll ever give it up.”

Kemp, who was awarded her first international number 9 card, believes the injury has allowed her to develop her batting.

She made her professional debut last year and played a full season with the Perth Scorers last summer as a top-order batsman.

Earlier this year, coach Charlotte Edwards, who worked with Kemp at Southern Vipers, Hampshire, Southern Braves and now England, made a name for herself when discussing the importance of bowling all-rounders for the T20 World Cup.

Kemp is the left-handed batsman England haven’t had in their top order since Lydia Greenway retired in 2016.

“I’ve definitely (improved as a hitter),” Kemp said.

“I always talk to Lottie and she always helps me a lot with my batting, especially in match situations.

“I’d like to think that other people do too, but I’ve definitely been a taker.”
