Score card

England registered their first ever T20 series win over India as their opponents suffered a 5th consecutive defeat in 20-over matches.

Set to 159 to win, Philly Salt and captain Harry Brooke put on an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 144 as England reached their target in 13.5 overs in the fourth T20I in Bristol.

Brooke scored 79 off 35 balls and Salt hit 59 off 42 balls, despite not getting the first nine balls.

England have an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, having won their last three games in fine fashion after being washed out in the first leg at Chester-le-Street.

India’s losing run, coupled with two surprise losses against Ireland before this series, has put pressure on Shreyas Iyer, who took over the T20 captaincy of India in early June.

Shreyas played a heroic innings, scoring 80 off 49 balls as India finished 158-7.

Repeating the form of the last two matches, India bowled easily at the slips and fell into the hands of a waiting English fielder, with 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi falling first and lifting Jofra Archer to Sam Curran for 15.

Shivam Dube was the only other batsman, hitting 22 off 23 balls in a 53-run fourth-wicket partnership with Shreyas before hitting a delivery from Tom Banton to long-on.

The archer, who finished with figures of 2-20, wrapped up India’s innings with some fine footwork and hit the ball on the stumps to beat Axar Patel’s run outside off.

The series concludes in Southampton on Saturday (14:30 BST), with back-to-back T20 World Champions India looking to avoid going winless for the first time in the five-match T20-over series.
