England beat India by 27 runs to record a stunning 2-1 series win at Lord’s to claim the highest one-day international total.

Opener Ben Duckett hit 141 off 135 balls in Cricket Home to record the highest men’s ODI individual score.

Duquette shared an opening stand of 192 with Jacob Bethel, who fell on 91, and ended up hitting 18 fours and a six to chip Prince Yadav’s comeback in the 44th over.

Joe Root made 74 off 48 balls to take England to a formidable total, scoring his 6th consecutive score of 50 or more, while Jos Buttler suffered a late 13-ball defeat.

Asked to set what would be the second-highest winning target in the history of the format, India remained in the deep hunt in the game thanks to Rohit Sharma’s superb 138.

The 39-year-old, who was tipped to retire at the end of the tournament, was in fine form, hitting 17 fours and five sixes in his 111-ball innings.

He put on a stand of 147 with Shubman Gill, who hit 77 before being caught lbw by Adil Rashid.

Rohit’s dismissal in the 38th over, which beteled the legs, was a crucial moment in the game, as the required run-rate increased as Virat Kohli tried to take India to victory.

Kohli saw the rest of India’s middle order dismissed cheaply and he himself was caught for 74 off the bowling of Sam Curran, effectively ending the tourists’ challenge.

India’s tail continued to hit boundaries, but their target was too big and they finished on 360-7.
