Coach Charlotte Edwards is delighted with the speed and quality of cricket England have achieved but now faces her biggest decision since taking over as manager before the start of last summer.

Capsey notched a match-winning 74 against New Zealand last month, but White-Hodge was pushed from the opener to number four when he was in Bristol for Saturday’s match – a sign that Dunkley and White-Hodge are still the preferred opening partnership.

While Knight played a series of sweeps and reverses, Capsi, who looked fitter and more composed in 2026, targeted straight boundaries with power.

Earlier, she hit a glorious in-form drive over cover for a six and in the 15th over, she swatted home spinner Sri Charan for a scintillating six for four and two.

Knight reached her fifty in 31 deliveries – by far the fastest mark for England. Her bat, which started the season with less than five innings of run ball, was unremarkable.

The next question is whether England can translate this performance into one under pressure on the world stage, which it has not been able to do in recent years.
