England continue their quest 2026 World Cup subject, which is meeting for the first time, the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the third meeting of the 32nd.
Having come out of their group with an unbeaten record, the Three Lions will be looking to roar into the next round.
But with a difficult performance and a difficult win marring their recent form, Thomas Tuchel and his team will take nothing lightly against DR Congo, who are enjoying a dream debut.

Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham scored five goals between them to take England to the World Cup final, but questions remain over Tuchel’s squad.
The English side has looked out of sorts in recent games and has at times lacked the energy that some feel is necessary to push forward in a serious competition. However, when they face DR Congo, they will hope it is the first of five games that could end their 60-year wait for World Cup glory.
The Three Lions are favorites in DR Congo, but face a tough road to the finals that could include home matches against Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. England have not won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
As for DR Congo, the competition is already a success, and redemption in their appearance alone. In 1974, with the country that at that time was called Zaire, early exit happened after three strong defeats, where they failed to score a goal and lost 14.
DR Congo finally got their World Cup back after 52 years this time, doing so the hard way by facing Jamaica in their friendly match.
Although their pre-World Cup preparations were affected by the Ebola crisis at home, the Congolese fought tooth and nail in the squad, and their hard work paid off as a Yoane Wissa double helped them beat Uzbekistan 3-2 for their first World Cup win.

Opta’s supercomputers have calculated a 73.9% chance of England winning the tournament in regulation time, while DR Congo are rated with an 11.3% chance of winning.
The chance of going to extra time – or possible penalties – is 14.8 percent.

The winners of the England vs DR Congo match will face either Ecuador or Mexico in the last 16.
Wednesday’s match will be the first meeting between England and DR Congo.
After drawing with Ghana, it will be the second time England have taken on two African teams at the same World Cup – in 1990 they beat Egypt 1-0 in the group stage and beat Cameroon 3-2 in the quarter-finals.
England may have great player Declan Rice in the starting line-up, but problems remain at the back. Reece James missed the win in Panama with a hamstring problem, and his replacement, Jarell Quansah, suffered an ankle injury. Djed Spence is expected to start against DR Congo.
No casualties were reported in the DR Congo camp.
