England have called up Henry Crocombe for the second Test against Ollie Robinson.

Crocombe’s selection may raise eyebrows if other recent selections such as Essex’s Sam Cooke or Durham’s Matthew Potts have been overlooked, but it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

When England named their Test squad at the start of the summer, Key referred to his rapid stature as “really started” this season.

Crocombe, a Sussex academy product, was selected by the England Lions in 2024 before struggling with injury.

It was only when he started this County Championship season with his first five-wicket haul, nine against Leicestershire, that he began to seriously catch the eye.

Another right-arm quick, Crocombe bowls at brisk pace.

Overall, his stats this season have been solid – his Championship average of 28.61 ranks 11th in the wicket-takers’ list – and he has England’s worth of talent.
