Emmerdale makers are looking for a permanent home for a soap village in Leeds

TV drama producers are hoping to resume filming in their village on location in Leeds after seeking permission from the council.

ITV Studios has applied to Leeds City Council to stay at Harewood Farm, which the show has occupied since 1997.

Current planning permission allows the site to be used until next year, including the Woolpack pub and Burden Head Farm.

If granted, council planners’ permission would allow the site, which is popular with tourists, to be used permanently.

According to the planning report, the complex offers a variety of external views and is used annually by more than 260 rooms.

He said: “The Emmerdale Village product range offers a service that adapts to the ever-changing needs of the brand.

“These may be planned changes to certain storylines or sudden changes due to weather conditions, availability or other scheduling issues.”

ITV said it needed to continue to use the set to show farming life and the Yorkshire countryside Local Democracy Report Service.

Interior and exterior scenes were filmed on the Harewood site, while the studio space on Kirkstall Road was used for some of the indoor sets, including the Woolpack.

The report said: “Emmerdale Village has been designed to include everything a typical rural village would have, including a village hall, cafe, church, housing and more.”

The current planning permission expires on 3 June 2027, which requires the site to be restored within 6 months.

The full planning application is out for consultation until August 13.
