Emery reclaims his European throne…and leads Aston Villa to break 44-year curse

Today, Wednesday, “Aston Villa” broke its curse at the expense of German “Freiburg” (3-0) and won the Europa League Cup in the confrontation that took place in “Besiktas” park in Istanbul.

Aston ended a long 44-year drought without winning a major European title as manager Unai Emery’s side restored the club’s continental glory after taking them to their first European final since winning the Champions League title in 1982.

The match saw a cautious start from both sides as Freiburg relied on counter-attacks with strong defensive positions.

Freiburg’s players launched a dangerous counterattack as Manzembe received a cross and struck it powerfully, but his ball ended up in the hands of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

On the other hand, Aston Villa players tried to penetrate Freiburg’s fortified defense. In the 41st minute, Dutchman Juri Tillmans opened the scoring for Aston Villa with a right-footed rocket from Morgan Rodgers’ cross.

Argentina’s Emiliano Buendia scored England’s second goal at +3 in the 45th minute from the same side where the first goal was scored, with a left-foot shot, taking advantage of John McGinn’s decisive pass.

In the 59th minute, Morgan Rodgers increased Aston Villa’s lead by scoring the English team’s third goal, assisted by Emiliano Buendia, who scored the second.

As the game entered the final quarter of an hour, Freiburg visibly surrendered, with Aston Villa in control and continuing to threaten the German side’s goal.

“Aston Villa” was able to lead the match to its predetermined goal, calmly stepping on the stand, ending the confrontation with a victory (3-0).
