French prosecutors yesterday opened an investigation into Elon Musk and X, adding to the probe into child sex and other alleged illegal activities on Musk’s internet.
This happened three months after French law enforcement officials took over X’s office in Paris and called Musk for an interview. Prosecutors wanted to interview Musk and X CEO Linda Yaccarino in April, but they did not show up.
The initial request to interview Musk and Yaccarino was described as voluntary. The authorities now want to compel them to appear for questioning by threatening to press charges against them. In addition to the sexual images of children, the investigation includes the publication of Grok Holocaust-denial claims and deep porn.
“Prosecutors said Thursday that the investigation is now a criminal investigation,” The Wall Street Journal he wrote. Musk and Yaccarino were summoned “to answer the initial charges against them. If Musk or Yaccarino fail to appear, they could be slapped with the original charges in their absence, prosecutors said.”
The Office of the Public Prosecutor in Paris Laure Beccuau announced the move in a Press release yesterday. The office said it has asked the investigating judge to strengthen X Corp., xAI, Musk, and Yaccarino “by subpoenaing them for these reasons and gathering their comments, or, in the absence of compliance, by issuing a similar injunction,” Le Monde said.
The investigation “is aimed at enforcing the law and protecting people who have been committing crimes online and in real life,” the attorney general’s office said. X previously “refused to comply with a court order to hand over his policy,” according to Le Monde.
