Elliott Anderson transfer news: Manchester City’s bid for midfielder rejected by Nottingham Forest | Transfer Center News

Manchester City have seen their initial bid for Elliott Anderson knocked out by Nottingham Forest.

City are thought to be in pole position to sign the midfielder this summer but a number of big clubs are showing interest, including Arsenal and Manchester United.

Man Utd have already agreed to sign the £34m deal Ederson From Atlanta this week.

Anderson, contracted at Forest until the summer of 2029, has emerged as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League this season and is set to be a key part of England’s World Cup bid.

The 23-year-old is part of a group of elite midfield options to hit the market this summer, including Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.

City appreciate that Anderson, who is believed to be of considerable value, has developed since joining Forest from Newcastle in 2024 and the relationship between the two clubs is believed to be excellent.

Midfielders such as Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Declan Rice have made moves worth over £100m in the last few windows.

Forest in strong position to negotiate Anderson fee

Analysis by Sky Sports’ Laura Hunter:

Given the length of Elliott Anderson’s current contract, Nottingham Forest are in a strong negotiating position.

But it is surely in Man City’s interest, and for the midfielder, to get a deal done before his World Cup campaign begins in two weeks’ time.

His value could rise this summer, if he plays and performs as expected for England. He has all the qualities to be as good and influential as Declan Rice has been for Arsenal since his respective move from West Ham.

He’s not a chance creator like Rice, but he’s a monster when it comes to regaining possession and then uses the ball really smartly.

He had the most touches among Premier League central midfielders (3,300) last season for a Forest side who traditionally do not see the majority of possession in games.

And he would significantly boost City’s midfield options, able to dovetail with Rodri, or completely replace the Spaniard when he is unavailable.
