Elliott Anderson transfer: Man City sign England and Forest midfielder for £116m

After joining Forest from Newcastle United for £35m in 2024, he became a key player in the club’s seventh-placed Premier League qualification for Europe for the first time in 30 years.

Last season, Anderson helped Forest to the semi-finals of the Europa League and was the Premier League leader for touches and tackles.

Attending every game at the World Cup, he became a key feature of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

City have fended off competition from Manchester United by agreeing to pay a club-record fee for Anderson, more than the £100m they spent on Jack Grealish in 2021.

Talks over Anderson’s future at the World Cup continued and an agreement was reached between Forest and City on the eve of England’s Group L clash with Panama.

He will join a team led by former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who joined Pep Guardiola in June after stepping down as City manager after 10 years in charge.

“They’re winners, they’re relentless, and that’s the type of team I want to be a part of — guys who win championships and trophies,” Anderson said.

“They’ve been dominant for the last 10 or 12 years so that’s why I wanted to join.”

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, described Andersen as “one of the best young midfield talents in the world”.

“He offers energy, a good work rate and exceptional passing ability. His improvement over recent years has been impressive and shows his desire to be the best player he can be,” Viana said.

At only 23 years of age, there is plenty of room for improvement in the coming years and we feel he can be absolutely average.
