Ed Steele: Watford head coach sacked after three months in charge

This has been inevitable for several weeks, and the announcement should not come as a surprise. No matter what happened yesterday against Coventry (and it was another poor performance) he was still on his way.

The results over the last two months have been dire, the performances appalling and tactically the Hornets have lacked structure and a recognizable game-plan.

The players also looked fed up – morale, confidence, belief and team spirit were rock bottom and there was no way around it.

Owner Gino Pozzo won’t be hanging around if things get close to this point, let alone this one, and he was on the wrong end of chants from the home fans in yesterday’s defeat.

Like many other ex-Watford head coaches, Still would argue that his chances were slim due to the club’s chaotic and confusing culture that has hampered them for so many years.

He certainly has a point. But, for me, he is out of his depth as an inspirational and tactical coach and lacks the aura to lead such a dysfunctional club.
