Cohen said in interview with Business Insider that he would rather be the CEO of eBay than the CEO of GameStop. “I didn’t want to be the CEO of GameStop. I want to be the CEO of eBay,” he said. “I really like eBay. I believe in the eBay business. I didn’t like GameStop. That’s the difference.”
Cohen said that eBay could be more successful by significantly reducing sales and marketing costs, and using GameStop’s 1,600 US stores as “a global channel for verification, consumption, fulfillment, and live sales.” But eBay’s board told Cohen that the company could do well with its current plans.
“eBay is a strong, sustainable business that has delivered strong results over the past several years,” the board’s letter to Cohen said. “We have expanded our focus, strengthened operations, improved our market and product offerings, and returned cash to our shareholders.” With its global market and clear strategy, eBay believes that the company, under the management team, is well positioned to continue to drive economic growth, execute wisely, and deliver long-term shareholder value.
Cohen has been selling various personal items on eBay in an attempt to raise $55.5 billion. “I’m selling things on eBay to pay for eBay,” he said he wrote.
Cohen’s story was to be suspended last week, but eBay has since allowed him to resume trading. “Cohen’s eBay account was initially suspended due to suspicious activity by eBay’s internal artificial intelligence tool, which led to his ban, a person familiar with the matter told MarketWatch. MarketWatch wrote.
A set of GameStop store logos sold by Cohen for about $15,000. A Halo 2 Master Chief statue takes about the same, and a Ken Griffey Jr. card they have a top price of over $11,000. With one day to go until Cohen’s auction, there is hope that the final price will be higher. It’s not $55.5 billion, but it’s a start.
