A deal the Red Devils dream of…but!
Saudi Al-Ahly’s England striker Ivan Toney has returned to Manchester United’s interest in the current summer transfer window as the English club look to bolster their attack in preparation for the new season, but the completion of a deal faces several hurdles that could keep the player in the Rossoneri.
According to the website.GiveMeSport“Manchester United place Toney on a list of strikers admired by the technical board, especially after he starred for Al-Ahly following his move to the Saudi Arabian league.
The report states that Toney’s high wages at Al-Ahly are one of the most significant obstacles to his move to Old Trafford, with the England striker receiving a huge financial contract that could make it difficult for Manchester United to reach an agreement to match the club’s wage structure.
He added that the player currently has no desire to leave the Saudi league, despite rumors linking him with a return to the English Premier League, as he feels stable after his first season with the team at Al-Ahly.
Al-Ahly have not decided their position on the possibility of giving up England’s top goalscorer, as it is not yet clear what price the club could demand to sell the player, or if the management would even consider giving him up, especially as he still has two years left on his contract.
Toni is considered one of the most important elements of the team, who played a prominent role in the results achieved by Al-Ahly last season, which makes the idea of his departure a matter of careful consideration at the club.
The 30-year-old striker has had a remarkable season for Al-Ahly, scoring 32 goals in 32 games in the Rushen League, establishing himself as one of the most popular strikers in the competition after joining the club from English side Brentford.
Al-Ahli signed Toney for around £40m in the summer of 2024 after a successful spell with Brentford in which he scored 36 goals in 83 Premier League appearances, attracting the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Manchester United’s interest in Ivan Toni comes in light of doubts over the future of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee, who failed to make the expected signings last season, so the club have been looking for a striker who is experienced and can lead the front line.
Despite the Red Devils’ apparent interest, current indications are that Toni will continue with Al-Ahly, given the player’s insistence on staying put and the Saudi club’s stated lack of desire to let go of one of its biggest stars ahead of the start of the new season.
