Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine Review: Powerful but Expensive

Before you start spinning, you should roll the Steamer’s head back and forth for 10 to 20 seconds to make sure it is wet enough to work. You’ll know it’s ready when you see similar water channels. Before mopping, I also recommend using the Fluffy Optic head to pick up the dust in the area, as the wet head’s waste tray looks smaller than the one on wet cleaners. You’ll thank yourself for cleaning before it’s over when the mop doesn’t make you dirty. Although the waste tray is small, I like that it’s completely plastic, as the mesh on my old Dyson WashG1 got moldy. To avoid a mess when you’re done, make sure to keep the Submarine head stationary until you separate the trays, remove the waste section, and dispose of the gray water underneath in the sink or toilet.

Is It Worth The Upgrade?

If you’re looking for the best Dyson vacuum, know that this model has performed very well in my testing, but you’ll get a little better with the Gen5Detect while saving yourself some money. Neither the Gen5Detect nor the V16 Piston Animal outperformed the cheaper Shark vacuum cleaner in side-by-side tests, however, so it’s hard for me to say that you should splurge on the rest of the Dyson range.

If you’re willing to invest in additional headsets and a docking station (when available), the V16 might be worth buying. But that will be a large sum; A V16 boat will run you $1,100, and at that point, you can invest in one of my favorite robots to do the same job without doing it yourself. Even so, it’s nice to meet a Dyson vacuum that can do it all. It is very powerful, not only because of its suction power, but because of its versatility, a small change for ease of use, and the opportunity to double as a wet floor cleaner. The strong HEPA filtration on the V16 is also worth considering if you have allergies and want to capture every micron, or inch of pet hair from your carpet. But I can’t lie to you: If I’m buying a new robotic mop, I’d rather get a robot mop.
