Mesopotamian Lions drew with La Roja
The Iraqi national team drew 1-1 with Spain in a friendly match at the Riazor stadium in La Coruña today, Thursday, as part of the preparation of the teams for the 2026 World Cup finals.
Spain opened the scoring early on through Ferran Torres in the 16th minute after the forward made a save from team-mate Dani Olmo’s cross.
The Iraqis’ response came in exceptional fashion in the 27th minute through Mirjas Doski, who received the ball on the left flank and advanced under pressure from the Spanish defense before surprising everyone with a shot from a narrow angle into the net to level the Al-Rafida Lions.
The meeting takes place in the program of the teams preparing for the World Championship. Iraq is in Group 9 alongside Norway, France and Senegal, while Spain play Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group Eight.
