Dundee United 0-0 Livingston: Hosts held by relegated Livingston football news

Dundee United and relegated Livingston battled to a goalless draw at Tannadice

The hosts had a chance when the Lions hit the woodwork and a goal was ruled out for offside and a penalty award overturned.

However, in the end both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils – although Aberdeen lost to St Mirren, United finished seventh.

Home boss Jim Goodwin made four changes to the side that lost against the Dons at Pittodrie on Saturday with Bert Esselink, Pan Kamara, Sam Cleel-Harding and Jonny Russell – making his first start since rejoining the club in March – for Iuri Iou, Christian Keresjets, Dario Namo and the suspended Emmanuel.

Livie interim boss Scott Arfield also made four changes to the starting line-up that lost to Dundee on Saturday with Joel Nuble, Barry McKay, Mo Sylla and Danny Wilson replacing Stevie May, Emmanuel Danso, Christian Montano and Robbie Muirhead.

Russell came close to making an immediate impact in just the second minute after Ryan Strain picked out the striker from the right but his shot was blocked.

The visitors threatened to try their luck with Lewis Smith’s long-range shot which flew wide of home keeper Dave Richards’ left-hand post.

Livingston then came agonizingly close to taking the lead when May’s shot cannoned inside Richards’ post, with Kerr’s follow-up effort blocked.

May threatened again soon after with a terrific drive from 25 yards, Richards having to palm the ball back for a corner.

The hosts had a great chance just after the half-hour mark when Jack Sapsford found Russell, who had played in Neil Farrugia – but Lewes keeper Jerome Prior made a superb save to deny the frontman.

Livy had the ball in the back of the net as Montano headed home from close range but the assistant’s flag went up for offside, with the decision rubber-stamped after a lengthy VAR check.

The visitors finished the half strongly with a flashed shot from Muirhead Richards.

The hosts had an immediate chance after the break through Brooklyn Kabongolo’s Sapsford header.

Levy replied as May went on a lung-bursting run before unleashing a terrific shot that flew just inches past the post, with Kerr then going close with a header.

United made the change just after the hour mark, Wayne Stirton had a quick-fire chance but his shot from the edge of the box was comfortably gathered by Pryor.

Levy was awarded a penalty in the 85th minute when Kleil-Harding decided to bring down substitute Joshua Zimmerman. However, referee Irvine was called to the pitchside monitor by VAR and decided to reverse his decision and book Zimmerman for diving.
