Dumbleton CC: Club score 417-2 in 20 overs

A club team from Gloucestershire is waiting to be seen if they have achieved the highest score in Twenty20 cricket after posting an incredible 417-2.

Dumbleton CC, who play in the Premier One top tier division of the West of England League, recorded a huge total against Hatherley and Readings CC on Tuesday.

Opener Ewan Gage scored an unbeaten 206 off 55 balls with 13 fours and 23 sixes, while Dan Holland scored 122 off 37 balls.

Dumbleton’s batters cleared the ropes a total of 47 times.

Surprisingly, Hatherley and Readings CC were bowled out for 188 runs as they were bowled out for 229 runs.

Harry Bloomfield, who gave away 35 from his one over in Dumbleton’s innings, became the third centurion of the match, scoring 109 off 48 balls.

“We all said it was one of the strangest and (most) fantastic games of cricket we’ve ever seen,” Gage told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

“We haven’t seen it break for a long time. It was such a weird game.”

Dumbleton pointed to another high-scoring T20I in India in 2017, where Mavi Finished at 416-2.

England last September 304-2 collection – a record total in a T20 international between two Test nations – in their win over South Africa, while the highest total recorded in a professional game was 349-5 set by Indian team Baroda in 2024.

“We got off to a really good start with me and Tom Kelly (64 off 25) and we’re carrying the momentum,” added the 23-year-old Gage.

“We had a pretty good batting order so we thought we’d keep flying, keep going and it got to a point where I didn’t think it was going to be for 200.

“It got to the 15th, 16th over and I thought if things went very well and luckily they did.”

As to why the game became such a high-scoring affair, Gage believed a few factors were at play.

“We wanted to try and win and get into the home quarter-finals for the next round and I don’t know if that was part of the game, but it was so random,” he said.

“Our ground is known to be a pretty good wicket and it is sometimes short on one side.

“The pink ball seems to have gone a little bit further and not done as much and I think everyone has gone into a bit of a mode and is going to keep going.”
