The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) team has arrived in the United States to compete in the World Cup, after being forced into a three-week quarantine in Europe due to a sports crisis. The Ebola outbreak in his own country.

Head coach Sebastien Desabre said he hoped his team would put on a “good show” and cheer on their vulnerable teammates who are battling the virus.
“It’s been a while since people have seen a team at the World Cup,” said the Frenchman.

“We had a chance to reach the final. Now it’s up to us to do well in the tournament.”

DRC – their first World Cup qualifier since appearing in 1974 as Zaire – canceled a planned World Cup training camp at home after the country was hit by the Ebola outbreak last month and stayed in Belgium instead.

The team’s World Cup preparations were also thrown into chaos as the team prepared for a friendly against Chile in Spain it was terminated because of fear of the spread of the virus.

Desabre said: “We adapted to the situation. “We had to concentrate, because we had to adapt a lot.

“That’s what we did. We worked hard, we played two really tough games, and here we are. Now, it’s another step for us.”

They will be in Houston during the tournament, where they will play their first Group K match on June 17 against Portugal.

DRC are scheduled to travel to Guadalajara, Mexico to face Colombia on June 23 before facing Uzbekistan in Atlanta on June 28.
