Hughes’s research received support from Lauri Peltola whistleblowerformer Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Nordic Nano Group – the company reportedly partnered with Donut Lab to develop batteries. Hughes says he also turned to “more than 20 independent battery experts,” including Julian Zahnow at the Fraunhofer Research Institute, who analyzed specific voltage curves, cell size data, and electrochemical signals to show that the “miracle solid-state” battery behaves the same as a standard lithium-ion (NMC) battery cell.
It is clear that the CEO of Donut Lab, Marko Lehtimäki, committed “fraud” by paying the VTT Technical Research Center in Finland to run some tests – and only tests – to create the illusion of legitimacy. Like Electrek documentsVTT did not directly answer the two claims that were important: 400Wh / kg power and 100,000-cycle life.
Hughes also digs into the confusing list of shell companies that Lehtimäki uses to hide what goes on inside the Donut Lab and the sources of its technology. Hughes also breaks down Lehtimäki’s financial practices and financing methods that could be fraudulent misdemeanors. A fascinating and deeply researched 45-minute film worth watching in its entirety. And, as always, be sure to like and subscribe – Hughes is legit.
What happens next for Lehtimäki, Donut Lab, and the affected vendors is unknown. But one fact remains invincible: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
