The “Greens” are preparing for the second friendly match in America
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation’s selection of Puerto Rico’s national team to face the Greens in one of three friendlies, days before the start of the 2026 World Cup finals in America, Canada and Mexico, has sparked controversy.
Saudi Arabia’s national team will face Puerto Rico at dawn on Saturday in their second friendly match at their camp in the United States of America.losing 1-2 to Ecuador in the first leg, while they face Senegal at dawn next Wednesday.
Saudi journalist Nawaf Al-Aqeel revealed the reason for the standoff with Puerto Rico, even though it is ranked 156th in the FIFA rankings, 95 places behind the Saudi national team.
Al-Aqeel said that the Greek coach of Saudi Arabia, Giorgos Donis, chose that friendly because it was the only one that was decided after he was appointed as the successor of French coach Hervé Renard.
The Saudi journalist explained that the aim of this friendly match is to experience Al-Akhdar’s attacking style and to learn about his ability to hold the ball longer than his opponents against a team with defensive quality and physical strength.
He also confirmed that the Greek coach could try out some players, unlike the Ecuador and Senegal matches, where they are playing against a top-class attacking opponent, and they will be using the starting line-up.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi Arabian national team is in the eighth group of the 2026 World Cup, alongside Spain, Uruguay and Cape Verde.
