Despite the injury, Donis is betting on Al-Aqidi at the World Cup

Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi continues his race against time to join the 2026 World Cup after joining the Greens’ camp with an injury that has kept him out of full training recently.

Al-Aqidi entered an intensive rehabilitation program after arriving at the national team camp in an attempt to regain his physical and technical fitness before the start of the championship under the continuous monitoring of the medical and technical staff.

Despite the doubts surrounding his position over the last few days, Saudi Arabia coach Georgios Donis of Greece still lists the goalkeeper as one of his main options and is even willing to rely on him as first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup if he is medically cleared.

According to “Our Club” report, Al-Aqidi will undergo important physical and medical tests in the coming hours to assess his ability to participate in the games before making a final decision on his preparation.

FIFA regulations give participating teams flexibility in dealing with goalkeeper injuries, as they allow the substitution of an injured goalkeeper 48 hours before a match, giving the technical staff extra leeway to exercise caution.

In a relevant context, the program revealed that the delegation of the Saudi national team has not yet received the official bus to participate in the tournament, but it will be received immediately upon the arrival of the delegation in the American city of Miami.

He also noted that FIFA has assigned two representatives to accompany the Saudi Arabian national team delegation at all times when moving between American cities as part of the established organizational procedures for teams participating in the World Cup.

The goalkeeper portfolio is one of the most important portfolios occupied by Al Akhdar’s technical staff before kick-off, especially in light of the high level of confidence that Al-Aqidi enjoys in the national team after establishing himself as one of the most popular Saudi goalkeepers in recent years.

Saudi Arabian fans are awaiting the results of the goalkeeper’s latest tests, hoping he will be ready to take part and lead the line for the Green defender at the upcoming global challenge.
