Despite Saudi Arabia’s interest… an exciting offer to kidnap Ounahi from Spain

The Moroccan star ignites the Mercato

European bids continue to chase Moroccan star Azedine Ounahi, a midfielder for Spain side Girona, following his impressive performance for the Atlas Lions at the 2026 World Cup finals.

Ounahi is one of the biggest names to draw attention at the 2022 World Cup after he played a key role in Morocco’s historic run to the quarter-finals before losing 2-0 to France.

Italian reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, through his official account on the “X” platform, reported that “Ajax” entered into serious negotiations to include Azedin Ounahi.

He confirmed that negotiations are currently underway between all parties, whether at player level or at both club levels, with Onahi’s contract with Girona having a €25m release clause.

Romano noted that Ajax are trying to negotiate with Girona to reduce the value of the deal and not pay the full release clause, especially since coach Michel has expressed his desire to keep the player or at least get the most financial benefit from his departure.

Onahi’s name has not been far from Saudi Roshan League clubs in recent months as the player has been linked with a move to more than one Saudi club, with several clubs interested in signing him, taking advantage of his international brilliance and great midfield skills.

But for now, a European destination appears to be the closest as Ajax are actively in the race to sign him and are keen to finalize a deal during the current Mercato.
