Ghana coach, Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has defended his decision to include Villarreal’s Thomas Partey in the Black Stars’ squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The World Championship is scheduled to start on June 11 and continue until July 19.
The Ghana national team is in the last group of the World Cup with England, Croatia and Panama.
Much controversy arose after Partey was invited to represent Ghana at the World CupAfter the former Arsenal midfielder was charged with rape and one count of sexual assault in London between 2020 and 2022.
The party denies all the charges and the trial has been scheduled for November this year and could be delayed until 2027.
Queiroz, 73, told Party about his decision to opt for Tuesday night’s friendly with Wales in preparation for the World Cup. “It’s a simple and clear answer. As far as I know, in England, Portugal and everywhere else we live in this world, the presumption of innocence in all cases rests with the accused until the court decides.”
“But today, and this is not limited to Thomas, and very unfortunately, because social media and the media sometimes operate with complete impunity, we are condemned even before we have a chance to defend ourselves.”
He continued. “Then let the events take their natural course. Let the river flow and one day when the river meets the ocean we will discover the truth.”
