Deschamps. I hope the referee for the Morocco match will be like Egypt and Argentina

The French coach praised the referee of the match between Egypt and Argentina

French national team coach Didier Deschamps praised the performance of his compatriot Francois Letichere, the referee of the Egypt-Argentina match of the 2026 World Cup, ahead of the match against Morocco in the quarter-finals.

The Moroccan team will meet its French counterpart tomorrow, ThursdayAt the opening of the quarter-finals of the World Championship at Gillette Stadium in Boston, USA.

Earlier, the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the appointment of Argentine referee Facundo Tio, who will officiate the match, and Frenchman Francois Lettres officiated the Egypt-Argentina match.

The decision sparked outrage in France and Argentina, especially in light of the state of competition between the two countries’ national teams, especially after their historic clash at the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar was decided by the Tango Dancers on penalties.

Deschamps commented on the matter at the press conference of the Morocco match, reported by French Radio Monte Carlo, where he said: “My opponent is Morocco, not the referee.”

He added: “I hope the referee (Facundo Tio) in the next match (between Egypt and Argentina) will be of the same quality as Mr. Letxer and his assistants.”

Letxer sparked controversy after the 2026 World Cup quarter-final between Egypt and Argentina, which ended with the Tango Dancers winning 3-2 after going 2-0 down.

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan has expressed his anger at the decisions of the French referee, accusing the International Football Federation (FIFA) of trying to keep Argentina in the tournament with refereeing errors for marketing reasons.
