Derry City: Partial stadium closure suspended after disturbance at Candystripe Europa League game

Derry City have been handed a suspended partial closure of the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium by the UEFA Appeals Body.

Punishment comes later Trouble broke out between rival supporters Police were deployed at the stadium before and during the Candystripes’ Europa League match against CSKA Sofia on Thursday, July 16.

Tiernan Lynch’s side lost the game 2–1 to exit the competition but the competition was suspended for 14 minutes as fans, including small children, fled onto the pitch to avoid clashes in the stands.

Partial stadium closure is suspended for a probationary period of two years.

Derry City were also fined 20,000 euros (£17,000) for the incident, while CSKA Sofia were banned from bringing supporters to their next European game and a further one-game ban was suspended for two years.

The Bulgarian side were also fined a total of 55,000 euros (£47,000) and ordered to reach a settlement with City over the stadium damage.
