Delaney Barnes: England forward signs new contract with Bristol Bears

England second-row Delaney Barnes has signed a new contract with Bristol Bears.

The 24-year-old joined the Bears in 2019 and surpassed 100 games for their Premiership women’s rugby club. A win over Harlequins last month

Burns won his fourth cap for the Red Roses in last weekend’s 62-24 win over Wales in the Six Nations.

“To reach 100 games at such a young age is a tremendous accomplishment and speaks volumes about his consistency, durability and the standards he sets every day,” said head coach Scott Lawson.

“He continues to develop his game and his recent recognition with the Red Roses is thoroughly deserved. Delaney leads by example on and off the field and his experience, work rate and physicality are invaluable to the squad.

Barnes has signed England team-mate Demelza Short to a new contract.

Bristol have not revealed the length of Burns’ new deal, with the side set to return to league action on May 30 for the final two games of their campaign.

“Putting on the shirt every week means a lot, and I’m excited to keep pushing myself and contributing to what we’re building as a group,” Barnes said.
