The sports director praises Lewandowski and confirms. He is almost impossible to replace
Barcelona sporting director Deco was quick to hint at what’s going on at the Catalan club after celebrating the title with the team at a dinner in Castelldefels (a city in Spain), praising Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who was honored at the ceremony by the club and his team-mates.
“Today is a sad day because Robert’s departure has become official. Finding a replacement for him is almost impossible. He was the best striker in recent years and everything he has given to Barcelona over the years is difficult to repeat, but this is football.”
He added, according to the publication of the newspaper.Mundo Deportivo:“Later, a winger arrived and became a direct striker, but now it’s time to make decisions and start strengthening the team.”
Barcelona’s sporting director avoided naming potential alternatives to the Polish striker, although he specifically mentioned strikers such as Julian Alvarez (Atletico Madrid) and Joao Pedro (Chelsea).
“It’s not about technical conditions. We are not ruling out any player and we will not sign any player.”
It is also not clear whether he will be able to work within the financial balance of the (1-1) rule this summer.
“These are internal problems. We guarantee that we will work as we do every year. We lost such an important player as Robert Lewandowski and of course we will try to strengthen the team.”
Barcelona announced Lewandowski’s departure when his contract expired at the end of the current season, after four years at Camp Nou.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona in the summer of 2022 from Bayern Munich. He played 191 matches for Barcelona and scored 119 goals, making 24 assists.
