The dream is not over
Kosovo youth footballer Fation Bungaku, 22, was killed in a horrific collision on the national road between Mitrovica and Pristina on Sunday morning, in a tragedy that has deeply shocked the Kosovo football community.
Mitrovica District Police said in a statement that “the Medical Services Department of the University Hospital of Kosovo received a report at around 7:50 a.m. that the driver of the car, a 22-year-old man, died of injuries sustained in the accident despite the efforts of medical personnel.”
The accident happened on the main road
The fatal accident happened in the village of Maksonai on the main national road between Mitrovica and Pristina, where Bungaku is believed to have been driving the car that hit two other people.
The three passengers were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment after sustaining serious injuries, but the diligent efforts of the doctors could not save the life of the young player, who succumbed to his severe injuries.
Shock in the center of the ball
As the news of the tragedy spread, football in Kosovo was in a state of sadness and shock as the Football Association of Kosovo expressed its deep sadness at the loss of a promising young player.
The Kosovo Federation said it was “extremely painful and very sad” to receive the news, considering the extent of the shock caused by the tragic incident.
We lost a great talent
The President of the Football Association of Kosovo, Agim Ademi, in a moving statement, praised the late player’s talent and special personality, saying:
“On behalf of myself, the Executive Committee of the Football Association of Kosovo and the entire football family of the country, I express my deepest condolences for this great and irreparable loss.”
A promising career ended early
Bungaku represented Kosovo at youth level, playing for both the U-19 and U-21 teams, and was considered one of the rising talents of Kosovo football.
At club level, he has built a busy football career despite his young age, having played for several teams including Tribeca, Leiria, Gilan, Malceva and Phoenix, and most recently playing for Albanian club Elbasan.
He also had professional experience in Croatia and emerged as an ambitious young player at international level before his promising career ended in this tragic and heartbreaking way.
