We have to fully focus on the match and the players are ready and able to achieve our goal and survive.” The crisis was exacerbated by the fact that Belgrano (where Romero now trains) also has a crucial match for the Argentinian league title against River Plate.
Despite De Zerbe’s attempts to keep things diplomatic, he delivered a harsh and veiled criticism of his team’s runaway captain, citing the stance of injured veteran defender Ben Davies, whose contract was extended last August.
“Not all leaders are the same. Ben Davis talked to me and asked him to stay here to work with us, and tomorrow he’s sleeping with the team at the training facility.
