Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has expressed his admiration for Argentina ahead of their upcoming World Cup finals clash, stressing that his team is looking forward to fighting for the world title and enjoying this historic moment against a strong opponent who has had an exceptional career recently.
De la Fuente’s statements were as follows. during a press conference at the Javits Center in ManhattanIt is the place chosen by the International Football Federation (FIFA) to hold the press conference of the coaches of the teams that qualified for the World Cup finals.
“To reach the final of the World Cup is a luxury in itself and I agree to reach the final every year, even if we lose it. We want to fight for the title and we will enjoy this moment because Argentina is a great opponent and has a great career.”
Regarding Argentina’s strong and impulsive style of play, the Spanish coach said: “It’s going to be a big show because we’re up against two very good teams with a lot of similarities. Each of us will direct the game to the area that serves our interests, but both teams will present a game in which talent will win.
De La Fuente explained about his nervousness before the final game. “I’m nervous because we’re going back to the hotel by helicopter now, and that’s what makes me nervous, but none the less, I’m completely relaxed and all we want to do is enjoy this atmosphere.”
He said about the condition of the player Lamine Yamal and his comparison with the Argentine star Lionel Messi. “He’s fine and everyone has trained very well and hopefully there won’t be any nasty surprises or obstacles tomorrow.
As for the secret of his success and excellence, the coach of the Spanish national team said: “The secret is work, work, work, and even then sometimes things may not go well, and when things don’t work, you have to keep working and surround yourself with good people and helpers, such as talented players and competent technical staff.”
“Before starting this trip and journey, I explained to the players the unique features of the World Cup tournament and this is the current reality. We have not received any scolding or complaint from any player, and what seems strange to us today, may become commonplace and ordinary in a few years.
De La Fuente said about mutual anxiety and psychological pressure before the game. “It’s a common issue between us, because Scalloni and I agree on many concepts, and in this respect there is a lot of similarity between us. In light of this parity, we must try to win through the small details and imposing our style, and when the time comes to suffer together on the pitch.”
De la Fuente said about the possibility of individual monitoring of Lionel Messi. “I knew Messi when I was a youth coach at Sevilla and at the beginning we did one-on-one monitoring, but the player responsible for monitoring got a yellow card, so I replaced him straight away and after that we conceded four goals. The coaches and I have a lot of respect for each other and it’s a great honor for me to face him.
The Spanish coach cited a quote from philosopher Marcus Aurelius to reflect the spirit of the group, saying: “The most important thing is the beehive and not just the bee, because the most important thing is always the team as a whole, and this is a teaching lesson that we should never forget.”
When asked if the Argentine national team is an unclean or unscrupulous team, de la Fuente said: “I respect all opinions, but it’s not like that at all… I have a lot of admiration for the Argentina team because it comes from making history and is managed by a close friend of mine.
I finished.Yamal is 100% ready. He was hit hard in the previous game, but he faced the match and finished it perfectly.. Yesterday we rested him, and today he was in normal training with his teammates. He is perfectly fine and there are no problems with him.”
