De La Fuente. The World Cup roster is ready… and the Barcelona star deserves the award

Days before the official list was announced, Luis de la Fuente has put an end to speculation by strongly hinting that the Barcelona star will join Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, confirming his selection is all set.

During an interview with Mario Suarez on the “El Camino de Mario” program, the coach of the Spanish national team said that the official publication of the list of participants in the world championship to be held in Canada, Mexico and the USA will be on May 25.

Luis de la Fuente emphasized that the selection criteria are not limited to skill, but extend to philosophy and commitment to style; “The group of players is special, they are committed to the idea and the model is clear.”

De La Fuente settled the goaltending controversy by confirming that 26 players would be on the roster, including only three goaltenders, although he wanted a larger number;

The coach’s words on Xavi were clear advice for the young Barcelona player, praising his comeback from two serious injuries. “Not that we gave him anything, but he deserved it. He deserved it by overcoming adversity, putting in effort and working hard… Now life and football are rewarding him for what he has done.”

“Javi is going through a great and very important period and he is full of confidence and energy. We had a very difficult time with his first injury and it made us realize that we will miss him a lot when he leaves.”

As for the possibility of including new faces who have not represented the national team before, De La Fuente has not closed the door.
