David Sullivan: Former West Ham chairman faces further scrutiny after BBC and The Times investigations | football news

Billionaire businessman David Sullivan, who resigned as chairman of West Ham on Saturday amid allegations of inappropriate behaviour, is facing further scrutiny following a joint investigation by the BBC and The Times.

Sullivan, who made his fortune from the pornography industry, denied the claims and said: “The false allegations made against me have been sensationalized by the media. Having spent a lifetime building a business in the adult industry, where I have met thousands of women, it is sadly inevitable that these allegations of inappropriate behavior are being made against me by a small number.”

A spokesman for the independent football regulator said: “These are very serious allegations.

“We are liaising with West Ham on this matter and will use our statutory powers to seek urgent information from David Sullivan as our owner, director and senior executive regarding his suitability.

“We are unable to comment further at this stage.”

The 77-year-old was on the West Ham board for more than 16 years before stepping down.

West Ham were relegated from the Premier League last month.
