David Ancelotti: Brazil assistant manager and son of Carlo explains the game in his own words.

“In football it’s hard to say a manager motivates you,” said David, 36. “You take things from different managers.

“Pep Guardiola was very cutting, he was a pioneer. You can’t forget Jurgen Klopp in high pressure, triggers. If we talk about superiority, how to find Roberto de Zerbi, how to find the third man, you have to mention the small details that he found. I am fascinated by Diego Simeone’s level of defense, Unai Emery and of course my father.

“My father came from the Arrigo Sacchi school, zone defense, 4-4-2.

“And all these ideas have influenced my own identity as a manager. This process of creating my own identity as a manager is always continuous. For some people, I am like my father, but in reality, I am not exactly like him. I have the same character, but I am a different kind of manager.

“I don’t believe that a manager should be one thing or another, there is always a point in the middle. They adapt to the players, and sometimes they adapt to the opponent, but as a manager you need clear ideas on what you like.

“Ultimately, the group will emphasize what you emphasize and what you like.”
