Daniel Dubois could fight Fabio Wardley in an immediate rematch or against Agit Kabael. Boxing news

Fabio Wardley could decide to seek an immediate rematch with Daniel Dubois after losing his WBO heavyweight title in an epic fight in Manchester.

Dubois was crowned the new WBO champion after coming off the canvas twice to stop Wardley in the 11th round. A brutal all-British clash on Saturday night.

But promoter Frank Warren has confirmed a rematch clause has been inserted into the fight’s contract, meaning Wardley could activate a return bout after losing the WBO belt in his first defence.

“There is a rematch clause in the contract.” Warren said DAZN. “Let the dust settle, there’s a lot going on in the heavyweight (division) and then we’ll see.”

Asked again about a possible rematch, Warren told Sky Sports: “It’s up to them. It’s up to the fighters.”

“I’d like to (promote a rematch) but I’d like to see them get a real good rest, recharge their batteries and everything.”

Dubois was stopped by Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch last July, but a win over Wardley answered any questions about his hunger for a fight.

“He showed what he’s all about,” Warren said. “He showed his heart and his fighting spirit

“It’s not the end of the world for Fabio either. It takes two to win a fight like that and there were times when you thought Fabio might win the fight.

“He’s good enough to come back and he will come back, and we’ll be behind him and we’ll make sure we give him every opportunity.”

Agit Kabael was watching from ringside and expressed his desire to face Dubois in the near future.

Unified champion Oleksandr Usyk holds the WBC title, but Warren believes the belt could be stripped from the Ukrainian if he does not fight Kabael after his next scheduled bout against Rico Verhoeven in Egypt on May 23.

“It’s his choice (if Usyk wants to fight Kabael next),” Warren told Sky Sports. “If he doesn’t, he’ll have to vacate or be stripped of the belt.”

Warren, who also promotes Kabael, admitted that a fight between the Germany-based fighter and Dubois would be easy.

“It will, but Agit is next. The easy way to do it – if he (Usyk) wants to vacate the belt, he (Kabael) can fight the winner of it.”

The undefeated Kabael retained his WBC interim title with a third-round stoppage of Damian Nyber in January and is open to a world title unification fight against Dubois.

“I’m the number one contender in the WBC,” he told Sky Sports.

“First of all, I’m waiting for the situation from the WBC, Rico vs. Usyk and maybe we’ll see.

“When Usyk gives me the belt I can fight the winner of this fight, why not?”
