Rangers have signed midfielder Dan Neil on a three-year deal.
The 24-year-old – who left Sunderland at the end of his contract – held talks with Southampton and was set to move to St Mary’s.
However, Rangers have landed the former England youth international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town.
After graduating from the club’s academy, Neill made 201 senior appearances for Sunderland and led the side to the Premier League through the play-offs in 2024/25.
Speaking to RangersTV, Neil said: “This is a new chapter for me, and I’m really excited to be signing for Rangers. I’m really looking forward to what the next few years can bring.
“I’ve played for Sunderland for a number of years and the weight and expectations of the fans win every week, and that feeling of making or breaking people’s weekends is what drives me.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people who have been here, and they’ve said it’s a very similar feeling. And as a character and as a person that drives me to give 110 percent every day, and I need that in my career.”
Rangers have already signed Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrory, Ben Godfrey and Ivor Pandu in this summer window.
Following another addition, manager Derek McInnes said: “I’m delighted to welcome Dan to the club. He will be an excellent addition to our team.
“He is a technically gifted midfielder who is strong in possession, can contribute goals and brings tremendous energy to the team.
“At 24, we are signing a player who is hungry and ambitious, but who already has significant experience and leadership qualities, having led Sunderland to promotion to the Premier League in 2025.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Dan throughout pre-season as we prepare for the challenges ahead.”
