Scotland flanker Hamish Watson has signed for Castres after leaving Edinburgh.
The French Top 14 club moved to sign the 34-year-old after Dalton Papalii was sidelined long-term following surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Watson, who finished last season with Leicester Tigers, revealed he had to make up his mind quickly after being contacted by Castres.
“The opportunity to perform in French rugby is a great opportunity for me,” he told the club’s website after agreeing a one-year deal.
“Due to Dalton Papali’s injury, Castres Olympique contacted me in recent days and I had to make a decision very quickly. I did it with enthusiasm.
“I know a number of great Scottish players have played for Castres and I join this club in great shape with the firm intention of helping them perform at the highest level.”
Manchester-born Watson, who has 59 Scotland caps, joined Edinburgh in 2011 and made almost 160 appearances.
Castres, who finished 10th in the Top 14 last season, said they were welcoming back a player known for his work rate and ability to win the ball at rucks – and “who has competed at the highest level of international rugby for over a decade”.
