Kiev has succeeded in disrupting “intermediate strike” drones that can reach targets up to 200 kilometers (125 miles) away from the front line.
In recent months, Ukraine has targeted other logistics routes, including the highway from Mariupol in the north to the eastern city of Dinetsk and key transport corridors in and around Luhansk.
This is due to the oil crisis in Russia’s invasion in 2022 led to the collapse of a water line from the Siverskyi Donets River into Russian-held territories in eastern Ukraine, which were previously water-scarce.
A resident of Donetsk told the BBC: “People are leaving… water comes once every three days. “There is very little fuel, and it is very expensive in the country. He must buy drinking water.”

While Russian supply lines to Crimea are dangerous and costly to operate, they have not been completely cut off.
Analysts suggest that Ukraine’s attacks on key bridges may pose a greater long-term threat than attacks on roads.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Tuesday that the situation was “challenging” but under control and that the government in Moscow was prioritizing key areas such as Crimea and “border regions”.
Moscow has halted exports of gasoline and jet fuel, and Novak said the government is considering a “total ban” on diesel exports.
